Monkairi Homestay is located on Gam Island, One of the most beautiful island in Raja Ampat archipelago.
Gam Island Separated from Waigeo only by a very narrow passage, the much smaller but still sizeable island of Gam, which is big enough to be home to several villages, offers similar attractions to Waigeo itself. As it is still quite close to Waisai and home to several budget bungalow operations in 2 villages facing the Dampier Strait, one of Raja Ampat’s most popular diving areas, it has become one of the most popular outer islands with budget travelers to visit and to stay on.
Monkairi shares bathroom and toilet facilities with Batu Lima Homestay, which was formed when the original Monkairi partners opted for separate businesses. The facilities have a concrete-floored western style toilet and dip mandi bathroom in separate rooms. Monkairi will be building its own facilities in the near future.
A beachside dining shelter is located next to the bungalow.
There’s good cell phone reception at Monkairi and electricity is provided by a generator which runs at night.
Supplies are available in the village of Yenbeser on Gam’s south coast, which is a five minute boat ride away. If you’re in the mood for a walk, Yenbeser can be reached at low tide via a jungle path. The walk takes around 15 minutes, and path crosses the Dore Atri lagoon, which has lots of small coral on its otherwise sandy bottom. To minimise environmental damage, always do your best to follow in the footsteps of any who may have gone before you.
Monkairi Homestay has an English speaking staff member.
Please note: Sundays are a day of rest and family obligations for the Monkairi family. No tours, boat transport or organised activities are possible on Sundays.
